Amur Oblast (Russian: Amur Oblast, the region Amurskaya), subject of the Federation of Russia (region), situated about 8000 km (5000 mi) east of Moscow on the banks of the Amur and Zeya. It shares its border with the Republic of Sakha in the north, Khabarovsk Krai and Jewish Autonomous Oblast in the east, the People's Republic in the south, and the Edge Zabaykalsky in the west. In the Amur region had a population of 869 600 in 2008.
