North Jones is the second smallest combined city in Jefferson County, Alabama (after Cardiff). It is located approximately 20 miles west of downtown Birmingham, the United States, and approximately eight miles south-west of Hueytown. It was a thriving mining town in the early 20th century, when more than 2,000 people lived in and around the community. It is named after the mining engineer of Welsh origin, Llyullina Jones, who opened the operation of the coal industry throughout the region in the 1880s. In the 2000 census the population was 142, reduced to 132 in the evaluation of the Census July 1, 2009
