Thomaston - a city in Marengo County, Alabama, United States. In the 2000 census the population was 383. The area was first settled in the early 19th century, the people of Virginia and the Carolinas, who migrated to the area in search of land. In 1892 the community was named, and the town of Thomaston was incorporated in 1901. In Thomaston, there is one historic district, Thomaston Central Historic District, which covers the core of the city. Additionally, there are three properties individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Thomaston Colored Institute, KS Golden House, and Patrick Farrish House. The city is home to the Alabama Rural Heritage Center, Thomaston, and the Public Market, both joint project of the University Auburn Rural Studio.
